There is a person in Japan who hand builds guitars about 1-2 times per month and lists them on the Yahoo Japan auction site. I know nothing about him except that a few people I know absolutely rave about his builds. A couple of months ago I took a chance on a mahogany Explorer shaped guitar and would also rave about it. The prices he's able to sell his builds have been ticking up over the last few months, a tribute to the quality.
I was drawn to this Les Paul Junior build as it has a Honduras mahogany body and a very chunky neck, which isn't always easy to find.
After going back and forth for 2 weeks with my proxy asking them to put the guitar in a padded gig bag I purchased for it prior to shipping it was finally delivered to me recently.
It is exactly as I hoped. The neck fits perfect in my hand and it plays very well up and down the neck with fairly low action. The low output Gotoh P-90 is a perfect match. It can be clean and clear at low volume, but brings the growl when cranked.
The finish is al lacquer with no base coat, similar to how vintage Gibsons were finished. It was lightly relic'd by the builder with plenty of very light finish checking front and back.
I'm very happy with this one. A pure R&R guitar.
