I always wanted a vintage Gretsch Hollowbody to satisfy all of my rockabilly desires. This top of the line Country Club from 1954 (with a neck dated Nov. 1953) was meant to be that guitar. However, right before I was ready to have the frets replaced, I was able to acquire my personal grail guitar, a 1961 Gretsch 6120.
I believe that the guitar is mostly original, including the pickups, tuners and Melita bridge. There are some replacements (see below), but all replacement parts seem to be vintage as well.
I describe this guitar as fair as it is showing several signs of it's 70 year age:
The serial number is 12592, which dates it to 1954. However, when the neck was being reset the luthier was able to see that the neck is stamped November 1953.
Even with the low frets, it is playable up and down the neck. The neck is wide and chunky with the following measurements
Weight is 7.5 pounds
I am not an expert on vintage Gretsch guitars and have described this to the best of my ability. Please ask questions or for additional pictures if you like.
Includes what I believe to be the original hard shell case. And while the case is functional with hinges and latches that are solid, as you can see in the picture, there is significant aging and wear.
